Acarospora smaragdula

Revised name: Myriospora smaragdula

A squamulose species with a variable thallus that is usually creamy brown to yellow-green and may have a waxy appearance. The rounded areoles may be scattered or contiguous. There are usually three to seven apothecia per areole.

Thallus: C-, K+- red

In Scotland, Acarospora smaragdula has a scattered, and perhaps mainly coastal, distribution. It is found on siliceous or slightly base-rich rocks and other rock rich in heavy metals. BLS distribution map

Acarospora smaragdula is distinguished from Acarospora fuscata on basis of the flat to convex, more scattered squamules.
