Brachythecium rivulare

English name: River feather-moss

A pleurocarpous moss that is bright, golden or yellow-green. The stem leaves are egg-shaped, concave and somewhat pleated and have two patches of colourless cells in the basal angles of the leaves. Where the leaves run down onto the stem, they may form two broad wings. 

Capsules mature from late autumn to spring.

In Scotland, Brachythecium rivulare is widespread on boulders by streams, wet woodland and other wet habitats. BBS distribution map

Look out for Brachythecium rutabulum and Platyhypnidium riparioides nearby.
