Bryum pallens

English name: Pale thread-moss

An acrocarpous moss that is usually salmon pink or rose-red, but could also be brownish or green, and grows in patches, tufts, or as separate shoots. The concave leaves have a nerve that usually extends beyond the leaf tip, a prominent border and a pale base. Capsules are narrowly pear-shaped.

In Scotland, Bryum pallens is widespread on bare soil in habitats including streamsides and flushes, roadsides and woodland rides, disused quarries and waste ground. BBS distribution map
