Calicium glaucellum

A crustose species with a thin, light grey thallus that is often immersed and sometimes scarcely apparent. Black apothecia are often crowded and are borne on a relatively short, dark brown to black stalk. The apothecia may be pruinose at the edge and below the head.

Calicium glaucellum is widespread in upland Scotland where it grows on decorticated wood and old trees, particularly conifers. It is often found on old tree stumps. BLS distribution map
