Calliergonella cuspidata

English name: Pointed spear-moss

A distinctive, pleurocarpous moss that is medium-sized and forms green, yellow-green or orange-brown patches. The main stem is usually erect and side-branches tend to be more or less pinnately arranged. The shoot has a flat appearance. At the branches tips the leaves are rolled up to form spear-like point.

In Scotland, Calliergonella cuspidata is widespread in moist, open or lightly shaded, base-rich habitats such as grassland, flushes and marshes, duneslacks and amongst stone. BBS distribution map
