Caloplaca cerinella

A crustose species with a grey to white thallus that is frequently immersed. The small apothecia with yellow to orange discs and a paler margin are usually found in densely packed clusters.

Caloplaca cerinella is found on twigs and bark of, in particular, nutrient-enriched elder, ash and aspen in the eastern half of Scotland. BLS distribution map

Caloplaca cerinella is often found alongside Lecania cyrtella and Lecania naegelii.

Caloplaca cerinella is distinguished from Caloplaca cerina and Caloplaca luteoalba by the relatively smaller, yellow to pale orange apothecia that have a paler margin.
