Caloplaca marina

A crustose species with a yellow-orange to deep orange thallus that consists of small lobules or is cracked-areolate. When well-developed it has small, irregular areoles with slight marginal lobes and often with black stains in between. Apothecia are deep reddish orange.

Caloplaca marina can be found along the entire Scottish coastline where it is common on well-lit, hard maritime rocks in the upper part of the littoral zones. BLS distribution map

Calopaca marina is often found alongside Hydropuncataria maura and Caloplaca thallincola.
