Candelariella superdistans

A lichenicolous species with a grey to black, granular, areolate or continuous crust that is often inapparent. Scattered across the thallus, and often the only part of the lichen visible, are tiny yellow apothecia with flat to convex discs and margins that become excluded with age.

In Scotland, Candelariella superdistans is found locally in the wider Cairngroms area where it is found on aspen. BLS distribution map
