Cladonia polydactyla

A species with bluish green squamules that have incised tips. The podetia are branched and, when well developed, have regular cups with secondary podetia-like extensions that grow from the margins. The lower part of the podetium is squamulose, while the upper part is farinose-sorediate. The apothecia are bright red.

Cladonia polydactyla is common throughout Scotland where it can be found on rotting wood, humus, soil and peat in woodland, and moorland and heathland habitats. BLS distribution map
