Cladonia subcervicornis

This is a Cladonia species in which the basal squamules tend to be dominant. When dry, the upper surface is pale lead-grey, turning apple green when wet. The under surface is white and noticeably blackened near the base. This species forms compact cushions of ascending squamules. When present, podetia have an abruptly widening cup with irregular lobules and small apothecia.
