Diplophyllum albicans

English name: White earwort

A distinctive leafy liverwort that may have a brownish tinge or look green in deep shade. The distinguishing feature are the rounded leaf lobes that have a clearly visible band of colourless cells in the middle of each lobe. Clusters of green gemmae tend to form on the top of the leaf lobes.

In Scotland, Diplophyllum albicans is widespread in woodland and open habitats where it is found on rock, boulders, peat and soil. BBS distribution map
