Encalypta streptocarpa

English name: Spiral extinguisher-moss

An acrocarpous species that forms relatively large, dull, pale green patches. The leaves are broad, more or less parallel-sided, opaque and narrow abruptly to a rounded tip. Clusters of brown, thread-like propagules often occur in the leaf axils.

In Scotland, Encalypta streptocarpa has a scattered distribution and is found on base-rich rock and stone, especially limestone, mortar in walls and in grassland in limestone areas. BBS distribution map
