Homalothecium sericeum

English name: Silky wall feather-moss

A pleurocarpous moss with green or golden green shoots that grow closely adpressed to the substrate. When dry, the short and crowded branches curve upwards and inwards, when moist, they spread outwards. The leaves are strongly pleated and taper gradually to a fine tip.

In Scotland, Homalothecium sericeum is widespread on the bark of mature trees such as ash and elder, rocks and manmade substrata such as walls and roofs. BBS distribution map
