Hypnum andoi

English name: Mamillate plait-moss

A pleurocarpous moss with yellow-green to dull-green, irregularly branched, slender shoots. The leaves taper to a fine point and curve strongly towards the underside of the shoot. Capsules have a shortly pointed lid. 

Capsules mature in autumn and winter.

In Scotland, Hypnum andoi is widespread in upland woodland where it grows on acidic substrates like bark and rock. BBS distribution map

Look out for Dicranum scoparium, Frullania tamarisci, Isothecium myosuroides and Lepidozia reptans and nearby.
