Lecanora campestris

A crustose lichen with a grey, warted or areolate thallus and a white, fimbriate prothallus that often forms circular patches. The apothecia are characteristically crowded away from the margin. These have large discs that are chestnut to very dark red-black and have a smooth margin which becomes contorted when mature.

Thallus: C-, K+ yellow, UV- reflecting UV mauve-purple light

In Scotland, Lecanora campestris has mainly a coastal, lowland and southern distribution where it is very common on somewhat basic to calcareous substrata, including coastal rocks and gravestones. BLS distribution map
