Leptogium gelatinosum

Revised name: Scytinium gelatinosum

A foliose species with dark or reddish brown, rounded lobes that may look more greyish in sheltered situations. The margins of the upright lobes are may be entire, crenate or slightly incised. It is usually abundantly fertile with relatively large, concave or flat apothecia that have red-brown to brown discs.

In Scotland, Leptogium gelatinosum is widespread amongst mosses on basic to calcareous substrata such as limestone soils, dunes, mortar and the base of old trees. BLS distribution map
