Lobaria amplissima

Revised name: Ricasolia aplissima

A distinctive foliose species with a thallus that is silver-grey to pale buff when dry, and pale green-grey when wet. The large, adpressed lobes are rounded and notched, and their wavy tips are smooth. There may be red-brown apothecia and  mature specimens may have brown-black, coralloid cephalodia.

In Scotland, Lobaria amplissima has a mainly western distribution where it is mostly found on old ash, elm, sycamore and oak, and occasionally on rocks. BLS distribution map
