Lophozia ventricosa

English name: Tumid notchwort

A leafy liverwort with opaque, bright green, bilobed leaves that have prominent clusters of green gemmae on their tips. The leaf lobes are separated by a shallow, v-shaped notch. The back of the stem is usually red-brown.

In Scotland, Lophozia ventricosa is widespread in peat bogs, the edge of flushes, wet heath, rocky slopes, quarries, leached sand dunes and woodland. BBS distribution map

Look out for Cephalozia bicuspidata, Dicranum scoparium, Plagiothecium undulatum and Rhytidiadelpus loreus nearby.
