Opegrapha gyrocarpa

Revised name: Gyrographa gyrocarpa

A crustose lichen with a tan to deep red-brown thallus that is fairly thick and may have a leprose or cracked surface and black prothallus. It often forms extensive mosaics. Yellow-buff to light orange soralia are dotted over the surface and may become confluent.

Soralia: C+ red, K-, UV+ glaucous or pale yellow

In Scotland, Opegrapha gyrocarpa is widespread on humid and shaded, often vertical or overhanging, siliceous or neutral rock faces, including drystone dykes. BLS distribution map
