Orthotrichum affine

Revised name: Lewinskya affinis

English name: Wood bristle-moss

An acrocarpous species that forms small, mid-green to yellowish green, cushions. The leaves have recurved margins and have an acute tip. Capsules have an outer peristome with eight pairs of reflexed teeth. Old capsules are light brown and strongly furrowed when dry.

Capsules mature from spring to autumn.

Confusion species: any other epiphytic Orthotrichum or Ulota species, including Orthotrichum pulchellum, Orthotrichum stramineum, Ulota crispa and Ulota drummondii
