English name: Endive pellia
A thalloid liverwort with green or blackish green thalli that lack red tinges. In autumn and winter it develops narrow branches at the tips that may be so numerous that they hide the thalli they develop from.
Sporophytes mature in spring.
In Scotland, Pellia endiviifolia is widespread, but found mainly in base-rich to slightly acidic areas on wet substrates such as by watercourses, in wet woodland, fens and dune slacks. BBS distribution map
