Phaeophyscia orbicularis

A foliose species that forms small, often orbicular and adpressed thalli can be pale brownish grey to brown to almost black. When wet, paler specimens become vivid green. The lobes are palmately divided at the tip and are often covered in laminal and marginal soralia.

In Scotland, Phaeophyscia orbicularis is widespread, except from parts of The Highlands. It grows on nutrient-rich and -enriched bark and stone, including gravestones and manmade substrata in urban areas. BLS distribution map
