Racomitrium aciculare

English name: Yelllow fringe-moss

An acrocarpous moss that stands out when it forms loose, dark green or almost black tufts with yellow-green shoot tops. The blunt leaves usually have teeth. The long, straight capsules are held on a long seta.

Capsules mature in spring.

In Scotland, Racomitrium aciculare is widespread on tops of periodically inundated rocks in fast-flowing, base-poor rivers and on flushed rock outcrops. BBS distribution map
