English name: Even scalewort
A leafy liverwort with yellowish green, rounded, bilobed leaves that overlap and have a smaller lobule folded underneath. With a hand lens, rounded, sack-like male bracts can be seen on the same shoots as long, flat perianths. The leaf margins may have gemmae.
In Scotland, Radula complanata is widespread on trees and shrubs in sheltered, humid locations, on rocks by streams and sheltered sea cliffs. BBS distribution map
Look out for Frullania dilitata, Metzgeria furcata and Zygodon viridissimus nearby.
