English name: Crenulated flapwort

A leafy liverwort that is rust-red, but pale green in shade. Most colonies are a mixture of medium-sized plants and slender shoots with almost circular leaves.

Capsules mature from January to July.

In Scotland, Solenostoma gracillima is a widespread coloniser of upland base-poor soil in habitats such as soilbanks, woodland paths, ditches and crumbling cliffs and old quarries, especially where the substrate is disturbed by trampling or weathering. BBS distribution map
