Sphagnum capillifolium

English name: Acute-leaved bog-moss

A bog-moss that grows in firm, dense hummocks of very slender shoots with a convex to hemispherical capitula. The surface of the hummocks resemble cauliflower florets. Spreading branches are long and have a tapering, down-turned, white tip.

In Scotland, Sphagnum capillifolium is widespread in bogs, on moorland and bouldery slopes, and in wet woodland. BBS distribution map
