Sticta limbata

A foliose species with a pale grey to dark brown thallus that consists of lobes that are rounded and only slightly incised. The margins of the lobes are usually upturned and edged with dense, bluish grey, granular soredia which may spread towards the centre of the thallus. The under surface of the lobes is tan, with a thick, paler tomentum that conceals the circular cyphellae.

In Scotland, Sticta limbata has a mainly western distribution where it is found on mossy trees and rocks in old woodlands and parkland. BLS distribution map
