Surveys and writing

As a field ecologist specialised in lichens and bryophytes, especially those of woodlands, coastal and heritage landscapes, I am available for surveys across Scotland. Apart from producing a species list for a site, these surveys may help identify species and habitats of interest and/or feed into the site’s biodiversity plan. I welcome the challenge of carrying out surveys in perhaps less commonly surveyed sites, such as the survey of the Highland Wildlife Park in 2022, and am also open to survey work that feeds into wider research. My lichen and bryophyte survey of the broch Caisteal Grugaig for Forestry and Land Scotland and my recent lichen survey of stone circles in Aberdeenshire for the same organisation are examples of this. As community engagement is at the core of my practice, I am keen to carry out community lichen and bryophyte surveys that are collaborative and contribute to the training and otherwise sharing of knowledge with local experts.

Communication has always been at the core of my ecological practice. With experience in with both scientific, reflective and creative writing, I welcome such commissions around the subjects of lichens and bryophytes and ecology in general.
