Violella fucata

A crustose species with a grey, thin or areolate thallus that may have a bluish tinge, lighter patches and a black prothallus. Soredia develop from eroding warts and may become confluent to form a bluish surface.

In Scotland, Violella fucata is widespread on smooth, acid to neutral bark or smooth patches of rough-barked trees such as birch, alder and ash. It can also be found on wood and fenceposts. BLS distribution map
