Xanthoparmelia mougeotii

A foliose species that forms small, adpressed rosettes with narrow, radiating lobes that are a characteristic yellow-grey. The centre of the thallus is darker and often almost crustose. Scattered over the surface are distinctive, large, yellowish grey soralia.

Xanthoparmelia mougeotii is common and increasing on well-lit, siliceous rocks, including gravestones, in upland areas. Though widespread, it has a gapped distribution in Scotland. BLS distribution map
