Xanthoria ucrainica

A foliose lichen with a lemon-yellow to yellow-green thallus that consists of flattened, overlapping lobes that widen towards the indented tips. The lobes are ascending and may form cushions. Yellow, granular blastidia develop at the tip of the lobes and spread over the lower surface. The lobes sometimes erode to an almost sorediate crust.

In Scotland, Xanthoria ucrainica is particularly common in coastal and eastern regions where it is found on nutrient-enriched broadleaved trees, stone and manmade substrata, and those used as bird-perching sites in particular. BLS distribution map
