Chaenotheca ferruginea

A crustose lichen with an areolate crust that is often blue-grey to orange-grey and that has orange or mustard-yellow patches. If present, the apothecia are stalked.

Chaenotheca ferruginea occurs mainly in eastern and central parts of Scotland where it is found on dry bark crevices of deciduous trees or old conifers. BLS distribution map

Chaenotheca ferruginea is often found alongside Calicium viride, Chrysothrix candelaris and Lecanactis abietina.
