Lecanactis abietina

A crustose lichen with a thin or leprose thallus that is white to dark grey and often has a distinctive mauve tinge. Scattered over the surface are pycnidia that have white pruinose tips. The brown apothecia are often covered with a thick, buff-grey pruina.

Thallus: C- K-, UV+ yellow or glaucous grey. Pycnidial pruina: C+ red

Lecanactis abientina is found throughout upland Scotland where it may cover large areas on the shaded sides of acid-barked trees in medium-aged to mature woodland. BLS distribution map

Lecanactis abietina is often found alongside Calicium viride, Chaenotheca ferruginea and Chrysothrix candelaris.
