Evernia prunastri

A foliose species with strap-shaped thalli that are pendant and yellow to yellow-green above and white, often with green patches, below. The upper surface of the lobes has netlike ridges that erode and become sorediate in larger specimens.

Evernia prunastri is very common on acid-barked deciduous trees, and can also be found on fenceposts, rocks and growing on the ground in heathland and dunes. BLS distribution map

Evernia prunastri can be distinguished from Ramalina farinacea by its foliose rather than fruticose growth form. Evernia prunastri is distinguished from Pseudevernia furfuracea by the presence of soredia rather than isidia and the lack of a black under surface of lobes.
