English name: Heath plait-moss
A pleurocarpous moss with a pale green, washed out colour that lacks any hint of brown. The stem is green and shoots are irregularly, pinnately branched. The leaves are finely tapering and strongly curved downwards.
In Scotland, Hypnum jutlandicum is widespread on the ground in a wide range of habitats, including acidic heathland, conifer plantations, upland grassland and block scree. BBS distribution map
Look out for Dicranum scoparium, Hylocomium splendens, Pleurozium schreberi and Rhytidiadelphus loreus nearby.
