Lobaria scrobiculata

Revised name: Lobarina scrobiculata

A distinctive foliose species that is yellowish grey when dry and blue-grey to almost black when wet. The large, ridged lobes are only attached to the substratum towards the centre. On lobe margins and ridges there may be coarse, blue-grey soralia and/or dark, almost globose isidia. The species rarely has red-brown apothecia.

In Scotland, Lobaria scrobiculata is mainly found in the central and western Highlands where it grows on old, broadleaved trees and mossy rocks in coastal areas. BLS distribution map
