Pannaria conoplea

A distinctive lichen species with a blue-grey or yellowish grey thallus that consists of long, incised lobes that are contiguous and adpressed, and often pruinose. Coarse, granular, coralloid or lobular isidia are formed on the ascending margins and may spread over the surface to form a complete crust. Apothecia have chestnut discs and isidiate margins.

In Scotland, Pannaria conoplea occurs mainly in the central and western Highlands where it is found on mossy bark of broadleaved trees in damp, sheltered woodlands. BLS distribution map

Pannaria conoplea is distinguished from Pannaria rubiginosa by the presence of isidia.
