Anaptychia runcinata

A foliose lichen with a golden to dark red brown thallus that becomes dark, oily brown-green when wet. The thallus is orbicular and closely adpressed to the substratum, with long narrow lobes that slightly widen towards the tips. Apothecia, with black-brown discs and contorted crenulate margins, are found frequently.

Anaptychia runcinata is widespread along the Scottish coast where it is found on hard, maritime rocks down to sea level. In the west of Scotland, it can also be found inland on rocks and stone walls. BLS distribution map
