A crustose species with a pink-orange to red crust that can be flecked white. The crust is uneven, irregularly cracked and finely powdery-granular.
In Scotland, Belonia nidarosiensis occurs locally on dry, rain-sheltered, vertical surfaces and overhangs on calcareous rocks, and hard limestone in particular. BLS distribution map
