Cladonia caespiticia

A Cladonia species that forms dense, low cushions that consist of greyish green, incised and ascending squamules that may have dark pycnidia on the upper surface. Small, brown apothecia may be sessile or carried on pinkish or translucent, short stalks.

In Scotland, Cladonia caespiticia has a scattered, mainly western distribution. It grows on earth banks, stumps and mossy tree trunks in mature woodland. BLS distribution map
