Revised name: Cladonia verticillata
A distinctive species with a primary thallus that consists of rounded squamules. The podetia are tiered, with subsequent tiers starting from the centre of the wide, shallow cup of the previous tier.

Cladonia cervicornis subsp. verticillata occurs intermittently throughout upland Scotland where it is found on heathland and mossy, siliceous rocks. BLS distribution map
