Cladonia diversa

A species with yellow-green, primary squamules that are rounded to incised. The podetia are stout and have wide, yellow-grey or yellow-green cups that are covered in corticate granules and frequently small squamules. The podetia are often deformed. The bright red apothecia and pycnidia around the margin may merge and cover the whole cup.

In Scotland, Cladonia diversa is common on acid soil, rotting trees, heathland, sand dunes and soil pockets on walls in upland areas. BLS distribution map
