Lobaria pulmonaria

A distinctive foliose lichen with a khaki to grey-green thallus that becomes bright green when wet. The upper surface is shiny and wrinkled. The lower surface is light tan with a darker tomentum which is absent on the raised parts of the thallus. The soralia, found along the ridges on the upper surface, may become isidiate.

In Scotland, Lobaria pulmonaria is mainly found in the central and western Highlands and the south, where it grows on deciduous trees and mossy rocks. BLS distribution map
