Protoparmelia badia

A crustose species with forms a thick, smooth or warted, thallus that is cracked or has flattened areoles, and is a glossy pale greyish brown to dark chestnut. The apothecia have a glossy brown or concolorous disc and a paler, contorted or crenulate margin.

Cortex: C-, K-, UV+ white

Protoparmelia badia is widespread in upland and coastal Scotland where it is found on exposed, hard, siliceous rocks, including gravestones. BLS distribution map
